REACTION PAPER
WILLIAM
(Theatre Play)

Hazel and I have a picture with "TJ". :">
William Shakespeare is an English poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and still very popular up to this generation. I’ve known him since I was in high school because of my favorite sonnet of his, the sonnet 18. Sonnet 18 is one of the most memorable of Shakespeare’s sonnet because it is easy to understand and everyone can be related to it. William is the theatre play we’ve watched last Sunday, September 15, 2013.
I am grateful for the opportunity that our professor has given to us. Especially because it is my very first time to watch theatre plays and actually enjoyed it. For me, the play expressed the idea of how Shakespeare’s work and his ideas made an impact with the lives of people in the modern world and we can see that some of teenager’s generations are actually not into poetries and plays no more — well for my point of view of course. The characters represent the modern society while discussing Shakespeare’s work (play, poetries, and sonnets). Every work of William was used in the play some of those work are namely Othello, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth, King Lear and the most popular of all, the Romeo and Juliet. Midsummer Night’s Dream was used as a theme for their prom night. Romeo and Juliet were used by the group to practice for their performances and some other lines were used from the other work of Shakespeare.
The main characters or the major characters in the scene are classified as perfectionist nerd named Estella, socialite named Sophie, a student leader named Richard, a popular and bully named TJ lastly but not the least an average guy and typically shy type person Erwin. Also, there are five minor characters first, the teacher which she shared her knowledge about Shakespeare and let the students study about it, second is the father of different characters but only played by one man which is amazing because he handled it very well especially the different languages used and fast changing costumes and who would ever forget the awesome back-up singers and dancers; one tanned guy and a fairer skinned guy and lastly a proud homosexual Chinese girl which is portrayed. There are different kinds of characters in the play. Major roles are typically a dynamic characters, and one of the minor roles are classified as a type character for the role of a Chinese girl and the characters of the two minor guys are an example of a flat character. Estella is perfectionist nerd because she wanted to be loved by all if she make no mistake in her life as she has seen from the experience of her dad was left by her mom for another family. Sophie is socialite typical girl which never fond of being one, she find herself in a situation of choosing what she wants and what her family want for her. Richard is one of those people who excel in every way and a student leader of his section but never confronted to anyone that he is a homosexual, that have a crush on or simply likes TJ since they’ve met, instead he kept it for a long time and Estella found it out eventually. TJ is one of the characters that I’ve notice from the start and flashback started running form my mind because my best friend in elementary experienced the same thing, he was also a battered child, and I actually understand why he was acting like that way. Erwin is a typically an average shy guy that hides himself under the shadows of others when he can actually have something to be proud of. Like any other of people a lot of them are these type of character they don’t want to do anything that can be bad for other people but if happens for himself it is okay which can be actually trouble in any other circumstances.
Before, personally, I think of theatre plays are just some silly plays which people are acting out different kinds or types of characters. Since it was never been discussed very well back then by my teachers I already put my thoughts with it or assumed that theatre plays aren’t good to watch. I’m glad that I’ve watched it because now, after watching William at the PETA Theatre Center everything changed. — ❤

Vanity shots wit Hazel! :)
